Milkweed is a historical fiction based on events from 1933-1945
The book is about a boy in Warsaw, Poland in the years of World War II during the Holocaust. Over time he is taken in by a Jewish group of orphans and he must avoid the Nazis (or "Jackboots") while living on the streets with other orphans. With this book we will focus on accuracy of history and the use of perspective.
Milkweed Characters:
Misha Pilsudski/Milgrom: is a small, short orphan boy who survives by using his size and quickness to steal food and escape danger.
Uri is a “scrappy, slightly older boy” who acts as a ringleader for Misha and the other smugglers.
Janina Milgrom is a small young girl who is a friend of Misha. She later becomes Misha's sister.
