HOW TO WRITE EXPOSITORY / INFORMATIVE
TOPIC: What are you writing about. Have a clear topic that a reader could easily find and summarize.
FOCUS: This is a zoomed in topic. What specific details are you focusing on? If your TOPIC is space, then your focus would be a specific NASA mission or important discovery.
THESIS: Found in your first paragraph. Your thesis sentence is Road map of you essay. You cannot write a paper correctly without it! • Your thesis sentences keeps you from getting lost when you are writing.
PURPOSE: WHY are you writing about this? not just because Mrs. McKay said so. What do you want your reader to learn? What is important about your paper?
AUDIENCE: WHO are you writing for? No not me. Is your paper for an elementary school class? A NASA scientist? Your parent? WHO you are writing to determines how much vocabulary you use, how simple or complex your sentences are, how much you need to define big words.
